Canceled: Ka’anapali Conservation Advisory
Thank you for your water conservation efforts during this time—and for your patience as we worked to intall a new pump and motor on one of our wells. The new pump and motor have been installed. The mandatory conservation advisory has ended.
UPDATE 11/13/24
Dear Ka’anapali customer:
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation regarding the mandatory water conservation advisory. While water availability is still limited, we are piloting a modified irrigation schedule to support customers’ needs as we continue with groundwater well repairs.
We can now allow irrigation once per week at 20% of normal usage. Please review the attached pilot irrigation schedule and water only on the allotted day of the week for your resort property or communities as listed.
This pilot program allows customers to irrigate; however, it is subject to change at any time and is dependent on water availability. We will continue to monitor water usage as users irrigate and will evaluate weekly based on water storage tank levels and data trends. This process will continue until the well is back online and regular irrigation can resume.
The estimated 20% value of normal usage was calculated based on historic usage data for the resort properties and communities, allowing for a volume of daily water usage to maintain sufficient water tank levels reserved for firefighting and fire suppression.
Please set your timers for 20% of your normal irrigation schedule or eliminate watering stations to achieve a 20% target. For this irrigation schedule to continue, we urge users to comply; otherwise, it will negatively impact all other customers in the Ka’anapali system.
If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected] or Ka’anapali Superintendent Efren Ugalino at [email protected]. Mahalo in advance for your cooperation and understanding during this time.

UPDATE 11/8/24
Dear Ka’anapali customer:
Thank you for your ongoing efforts to conserve water. We’d like to provide an update on the well repair.
The new pump and motor are on island, and the well contractor began mobilizing equipment today. The contractor’s crews plan to begin pulling the current well’s pump and motor on Monday, Nov. 11. We still expect the repair to take 2-3 weeks.
There are currently three wells out of service. Our highest priority is getting our P5 well back into service, after which we will move to wells P4 and P6. We continue to closely monitor storage tank levels and water use; with our customers’ current conservation efforts, we have so far been able to main safe and sufficient water supply levels.
Please continue conserving water as much as possible. You can also inform our office if you notice properties irrigating during this advisory. Please note, however, that some resorts and condominiums use R1 recycled water for irrigation, which is permitted, as it does not draw from the potable water supply.
We will provide another update next week regarding progress of the well repair, the status of the mandatory conservation advisory, weather considerations, and any modifications possible to the advisory.

IMPORTANT WATER NOTICE: WATER CONSERVATION CRITICAL
Dear Hawaii Water Service Ka’anapali customer:
This is a mandatory water conservation advisory for Ka’anapali Resort and communities. Due to recent high demand and a potable water well pump malfunction yesterday, our Ka’anapali water storage tanks have reached low levels. To maintain sufficient water supply and pressure in the Ka’anapali water system, effective immediately, please stop outdoor water use and use only as much water as absolutely needed for health and safety purposes until further notice.
Customers should pause all landscape/outdoor irrigation, washing cars, and other non-essential uses while this conservation advisory is in place, to enable our water storage tanks regain and maintain appropriate levels. Additionally, taking shorter showers and turning off the faucet while brushing teeth are easy ways to reduce usage indoors. For more water conservation tips, please visit the conservation page.
We understand irrigation is essential for your landscaping. We keep a critical back-up pump on island and are working to replace the original pump as soon as possible. We estimate three weeks at this time; however, we will reach out if water levels allow for a modified irrigation schedule. We recognize the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation during this time as we work to maintain sufficient water supply for essential uses. Customers observed irrigating outdoors within the mandatory conservation advisory are subject to having their meters turned off.
Water quality is not affected by our repairs, and your water remains safe to drink. We will update you when you can resume regular usage.
If you have any questions, please contact John Kadowaki at [email protected] or Ka’anapali Superintendent Efren Ugalino at [email protected]. Mahalo in advance for your cooperation and understanding during this time.
