What happens to my water service during a PSPS event?

Hawaii Electric’s Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program preemptively shuts off power to high-risk areas in the event of extreme weather conditions. When this occurs, Hawaii Water crews will work around-the-clock to continue providing water and wastewater services to our customers.

We have both permanent and portable generators that will allow us to continue operating our system. In the event of a power shutdown, generators will be used, and customers will be notified to conserve water so that we can continue providing the appropriate water supply for health, safety, and firefighting capabilities. Customers can still use water when a water conservation request is issued; however, we ask that irrigation systems are turned off and that customers use only as much water as absolutely needed for health and safety purposes.

We are working closely with Hawaiian Electric so that we have as much advance notice as possible of any future needs to shut down power, and so that we can give our customers as much time as possible to conserve water.

We will be notifying customers by phone, e-mail, and through Facebook.
